His IQ wasn't over 140.  And how do these other people, especially 10 year olds, know their IQ?  Doctors that administer these tests RARELY share the results, for fear that the test results will influence the person negatively.

you guys are fags it dont matter wat ur age is. his iq was about 230. ok he took it at the age of 37. and you took yours at the age of 10, 12 and stuff like that. and if u say that his was 140. then omg! i must be able to figure out how to travle back in time cuz mine is 160! it matters how many answers you got on tha test. if you took tha same test as me and you got the same ammount of answers right as me u little 10 year old you would probubly have an iq of 190 or 195. see? it dosent matter the iq it matter the age. take it again when your 37 and see if u can get 230. cuz you wont be able to. by the way im 14. thank you you retards. u guys dont kno nuthing about iq's. you shouldnt even be writing in here. dumbasses.

Everybody thinks that Albert Einstein's IQ was very high, but this is definitely not the case, his adult IQ was just above 160. He was definitely a genius, but this was not primarily due to his IQ, but his amazing level on transcendental thinking. Transcendental (= raised, sublime) thinking means that he can raise his thinking (i.e. the paths it takes) above the ordinary level. Basically it means that he was extremely creative and imaginative. An IQ score is a combination of brain speed and brainpower. You have a certain amount of time to take an IQ test, but if you don't mind the time and just make the test and take more time than allowed, you can score up to 30 points higher. So Albert Einstein's IQ was just above 160 (which is also very high) but he takes his time and he raises his thinking to an amazing level and then you can compare him to somebody with an IQ of 200. So Einstein had a lot of brainpower but his brain speed compared to brainpower was low.

It is a test. Intellegence is a mental process and mental processes cannot be measured as of yet. IQ tests measure one's ability to take tests and pretty much nothing else. By the way, 169.

Alright, first of all to those reading these posts, take a look at the language used in them. For example: Clever up there has some interesting things to say, however, greg is just bashing everyone. The rest of you just seem to be comparing your IQs trying to prove whos better than who. Quit wasting your time. IQ isn't necessarily a reflection of really anything. That test doesn't take into consideration different variables. For example, your mood when you're taking the test, your ability to take tests, emotional difficulty from external events, etc. Again, its just a test. Don't think you're any smarter than the next guy because you have a higher score on your IQ test. Besides, how many of your tests are backed up by a doctor with some sort of degree in a science dealing with intelligence? I wouldn't consider it even valid unless you have that kind of support. Anyway, I realize this post is quite off topic but I feel it was necessary as this little board is filled with quite a few nonsense posts. People, don't waste your time trying to compare yourself to others, that just proves how much less you are. Be yourself, don't try to be better than anyone. Really, what's the point? By the way, I'm 3!! Hah, right... don't waste your time, really. See how pointless it is?

Let me weigh in here.  First, why listen to me?  I took a psych testing course in college.  I've taught at the college level for the last 22 years and given any number of tests, both standardized and those that I have written.  I've also discussed these matters with my best friend, a cognitive psychologist.  I can still quote my ACT scores, 28 composite, and my IQ score, 130.  That score has been stable over the last 35+ years.  I took tests in high school, college and very recently online.  I hold a masters degree.  I'm 47.

Please consider a couple of things.  First, standard IQ tests (Stanford-Binet, Wechsler) look at pattern recognition.  All well and good, but it pretty much ignores other styles of intelligence (read Howard Gardner).  And also, like many tests, your score tells nothing about how well you function in a real-world setting.  Can you solve a problem when it's barking at you?  And, the key indicator in my mind, can you ask a good question?  It's not about knowing the answers; sooner or later you run out of those.  You have to figure out the right question to ask.

And my girlfriend has an IQ of 182.  You want competition?  Eat that.

I heard that Einstein's IQ was estimated to be 160, but he could think on a level of 190+ (I forget what website I found this on). IQ is rather faulty as a test because the results are misinterpreted. IQ is a measure of mental age (MA) to actual age (CA) in MA/CA=IQ, though this stops working after the brain has stopped developing, which most scientists argue is 16-18. By the bye, my IQ is around 130 and I'm 13, though this is rather rough because its a conversion of SAT to IQ, which is supposed to correlate to your IQ.

Who cares if Albert Einstein's IQ is 236 or not?  It's just another way to segregate people.  The world is full of nerds and dum-dums.  WHO CARES???  A human is measured by his/her deeds in the world, not by the person's intellegence.  So why is everybody so excited about IQs?  You should only be worried about that stuff when you're applying 4 a job.  Sure, I'm eager to find my intelligence quotient, but that'll only label me with the title of IQ FREAK.  If you wanna know my opinion, Albert Einstein's IQ doesn't matter.  He was just a very smart man who came up with the theory of relativity and the equation : E=MC2.  That's  all deal with it no need to have an argument over this matter.  I'm 10 and this is one of my deepest thoughts.
P.S.
Greg has anger management problems.  They're just kids.  Also, he is a rotten bastard (in my opinion).

I believe that your IQ can be altered at a dramatic affect dealing with the situation a person has, taking the IQ test. A person could sit there for an hour figuring out each problem as slow as they want and come out with an IQ of 170 or something. Also, how many times you take the test and possibly age can affect one IQ from another. A child could possible get a 130 and an adult could get a 130 but that child has more time for his/her mind to expand and learn while the adult has probebly reached his/her limit. So, because of this, one couldn't exactly realize his/her score in comparison to others (becuase lets face it, we are all comparison to ourselves ) if we don't have the same standards (age, time, how many times it has been taken, possibly mood, and level of education) for taking this test. And also, its extreamly tacky to have lots of people typing an impossibly high IQ score and giving an age for a child that can't realize Mexico from Canada.

well to be honest with all of you, Albert Einstein is still the most clever person who has ever walked this earth, his IQ doesn't matter(but is 223) its the fact he has the most imaginative mind any one has had, everyone tells me I'm clever and my IQ is only 96, that says allot about IQ, I'm not being big headed but i am one of the cleverest people in my year at school, even though i cant spell.

All of you are talking a load of garbage. For example cat says his or her IQ is 1000. As far as I’m concerned that’s impossible! Parf your partially right Albert Einstein is the cleverest man that has walked on Earth, but only as far as records show. But his IQ is definitely not 223. Einstein’s actual IQ was 196. I am certain of this, I am not just taking a complete guess like the rest of you are. And Samhawk001, the answer to your question is loads of people! Questioning mind, your cool! And by the way those of you who quoted about the language in these messages, I don't think you get the point of these messages, these messages are about Einstein’s IQ. The same goes to those of you only talking about your IQ. chaosblizzard is correct the only real way of determining your IQ is by taking an official supervised IQ test. Whoever first brought up the fact about it doesn't matter about your age, you're correct - sorry I didn't mention your name so you can become world famous - because at the start of any good IQ test, you get asked your age and your IQ is age adjusted. My highest IQ is 174, so don't mess with my brain. 2nd, 149. 3rd, 136, 135, 135, 133. I'm 12, 13 on 31.07.04. IQ stands for Intelligence Quotient. If you want to respond to this message my e-mail is -  andylaw31@hotmail.com - please respond if you have any questions. In the meantime try to give up talking a load of garbage!

OMG, your IQ is not important. it is how you use your intelligence, you could have a IQ of 300 but it does not mean you are the smartest man alive the IQ is a simlpe way to explain how much information you can learn and how well you comprehend it. you could have memorized the encyclopedia and it would not make a difference as to the clarity of it. so IQ is not a Major part in knowledge, there are people with an IQ of 100 and they are a lot smarter than any of you out their because they have understanding. so in conclusion Einstein could have had an IQ of 10 for all i care.

Einstein's IQ was predicted to be a little over 160. Only 1% of the population has an IQ over 135 with the average being 100.

This is how they generally measure up:

Intelligence Interval Cognitive Designation Common Possessors*

85 - 114 Average Pupils at junior high school
115 - 124 Above average Pupils at senior high school
125 - 134 Gifted University graduates
135 - 144 Highly gifted Intellectuals
145 - 154 Genius Professors
155 - 164 Genius Nobel Prize Winners
165 - 179 High genius
180 - 200 Highest genius
>200 "Unmeasurable" genius

I am a student of Physics (Cosmology and Astrophysics MSci) and Mathematics at University. My IQ was tested and I have only 136; I consider myself to be quite the intellectual as well.

The highest IQ ever predicted was for a Poet/Writer from Germany called "Johann Wolfgang von Goethe".

Hope this helps for the debate.

I do apologise; Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's IQ was predicted to be 210.

The IQ test I took probably wasn't that accurate, I see myself of having an IQ of around 130.

At the age of 10 and 12 years you most definately would not know your IQ.

As you can tell, I am pretty much fed up of studying Physics for now and I find people's opnions quite intrigueing.

In response to a few post's I would just like to point out that Einstein was not that creative or imaginative, he even says himself;

Quote from Einstein:

Above all, it is my disposition for abstract and mathematical thought, and my lack of imagination and practical ability.

Well there you go .

I like the fact that Greg has an IQ of 160 but can't spell "the" or "amount" and uses sentences like "it dont matter"... riiight.  I completely agree with Joshua, and for you 12 year olds who seem to think you have an IQ of 120 or whatever and think you're the next Einstein, you really need to ponder on this.  The online test you took to determine that is horribly off and is nothing like a true IQ test that doctors give to qualified people who have evidence of being gifted.  All of you need to shut up because you have no idea what you are talking about and you think you're smart because some website tells you your IQ is in genius range... congratulations... ha.   Peace out.

i have 1 more thing to add before i am done with this forum for now. the only reason the on line IQ tests say you are genius is because of the fact that they want your to invest in they're product such as a tutor or text books. it is all part of a on line market. if they can get you to believe you are genius then they will do so but for as you 12 and 13 year old how believe they are practical intellects you are about a 100 points away form getting their.

Wow. I have to agree with mitsi. I'm 17, have an IQ of 132. Not that it matters to me, because I put off doing the test until I felt I was emotionally mature to handle what I got back. And if Anonymous85 from March 13, 2004 was telling the truth (which looks fairly reasonable and believable), then I'll tell you right now, I am feeling quite smug. But, the difference between how I interpret my score and how an 8-year-old looks at it are two entirely different things altogether. Congratulations! You have an IQ of 160! You are a bona fide intellectual bad-ass! Go ahead, get a job at Lockheed and design the next new innovative jet that will solve the need for using fossil fuels. Or work at Affymetrix and help develop automated gene sequencing. Make a difference. Don't sit around in front of a computer screen and gloat about a number (one that's probably fallacious anyway). And don't forget, whenever people lie about their numerical standings on tests and such, they tend to round off to the 5 or ten spot, and generally are pulling a number out of their head that would try and make their answer more credible. I find it hard to believe the scores laid out here, but if you say so, alright. But 1000? Come on. You know, my dad is a smart guy. Got a 135, a masters in public administration, a handful of associates, but you know what he does? He's a system security analyst working with Raytheon. They're defense contractors for the government. I plan on going to college, earning a few degrees and such, and then perhaps get into vehicle interior customization. Do you know why? Because I don't want to work with a stuck-up, pretentious pin-head with a holier-than-thou attitude like many of the young children I've seen responding on this site. Yes, CHILDREN. You are not anywhere near my age, and yes, you might be able to comprehend mentally what is going on around you much better than your peers, but not emotionally. I look at the writings displayed on here, and it's almost like watching a bunch of elementary school children fight over which which Pokemon card is best. I mean, seriously, if you are so intelligent, GROW UP, and stop treating other people like inferiors. I went to this website, this http://www.maxpages.com/raindrops/IQ_score/ and if you look at the scores on there, they are relatively close for the seemingly huge gap some of you seem to think it is. Don't look at other people as a waste of you time, but as people who can't quite understand or comprehend what you can. Oh, and greg on 2/12, once you start calling names, you've lost the battle. Don't write back.
Lots of love,
Chris  (exigent@caraudio.com)

Your IQ depends as well on the "era" in which you live.  Would Einstein have succeeded as well in, e.g., the stone age as well as he did in the modern era?  Probably not, because back then, we didn't need nuclear physicists, we needed people to go hunt animals and (at best) figure out how to start a fire.
It just happened that Einstein's skills and talents were appropriate for this era.
Another example is Leonardo da Vinci -- he designed a plane that would have been able to fly, had he had the modern materials available to us today.  Time plays a very critical role in one's life.

This board is so messed up. There are quasi-genius' telling people how to think. Weired little child-esque people telling me how great their 'IQ's are. Which, personally, I couldn't care less whether it is 80, or 210. It's totally irrelevant! To me, of course.
I just want to know what Einsteins IQ was!
Who, honestly cares if; "mi iq iz fuking 240 n im srter thn u" May I take a brief moment to attempt to decipher this. *Long pause* Dammit, the Germans used the Enigma machine. They should have just sent messages like that. Would've taken the Allies forever to crack the code. Sorry, I just have a thing against people who are 'srter thn u'
Anyway, to the decent posts: Bravo!

Einstein was definitely a very smart man but not really known for being a paticularly smart kid. There are 2 types of smart though.... grade smart (know your facts and figures etc.) and logic smart (how to figure something out.) He was logic smart. Honestly IQ means nothing really. You could do badly just because you are having a bad day.

123 is correct. Everyone that responded to the claim of +120 I.Q. are crazy!!! Very few people are of the high of scores, and they're called Mensa's. People whom claim to be smart, never are. If what people here are claiming is true, then the future will be a better place. I would bet the house that there isn't anyone here with an I.Q. over 115!!!  So ,keep telling yourself how smart you are and the idiots around you may start believe it

Hey Guys. I was just looking around on some sites for University etc, and I came across this post. I feel that some of you have very valid responses, while others are just sitting on here, trying to sound intelligent. Honestly, who cares what your IQ is. When will you ever be judged due to you IQ score in the world? Your fiance wont marry you because she found out your IQ score?...to be honest, IQ scoring is just another way for society to segragate those who are intellectually sound, from those who should just go back to their 9-5 jobs. Think of it this way, there are 2 men in a stadium with a lion. One man has an IQ of 89, weighing in at 250lbs, 6'4", while the other has an IQ of 155, weighing in at 140lbs, 5'10". Who would you place your bets on for most likely to survive? IQ testing is pointless, your IQ isn't likely to change once your brain has stopped developing, so why place a number on yourself that can degrade you? I think you should all just relax and stop freaking out at each other. You look like a bunch of children...even though some of you are.

MSa and Xoduro aren't even 85. 11 and 145, please. Why did you get tested anyway? They are not given out free to everyone. Oh, the internet. I wouldn't believe those sights if they told me the sky was blue. So my advice to you is, stay in school. Also, you need to stop lying.

I'm sorry but some of you people are very impudent and devain, look I'm young I'm only 15 and I believe you shouldn't worry about your IQ for now, relax if your young. So you young middle schoolersmay have a gift at your age, but mocking other people isn't showing it. Maybe some of you kids are just insecure of yourselfs and taunt others, or your just stupid assed liars. AND WASN'T THE QUESTION EINSTEINS IQ NOT YOU'RE DAMN IQ

The greatest test of one's IQ is how one respond'sto IQ test results. The only way that we can compare IQ'sis if everyone takes the exact same IQ test.

Each individual IQ test is often an individual test. Because of that, test results can be bias, or incorrect depending on the admidestering tester.

In conclusion, you all are stupid for wasting your time over the question.
